Descendants of James Evans
Generation No. 1
1. JAMES1 EVANS was born Abt. 1760 in ?, and died Unknown in ?. He married CHEROKEE INDIAN Unknown. She was born Unknown in ?, and died Unknown in ?.
Notes for JAMES EVANS: This information was taken from the 1830 Census of Marion County, AL. At this time I think that James is the father of Thomas, Noe and younger James ( question as to whether younger James belongs to this family as he did not live near Thomas, older James and Noe ) which are listed in this census. There is a discrepancy in different copies of this census as to the ages of James Evans and wife. In one copy I read, James was listed as under 90 years and another 70 years. His wife was listed in one as under 70 in one copy and under 50 in another. By reason I have chosen the younger age for these two. But I am still doing research and hope to find more evidence as to the actual birthdates. On August 8, 1999 I deleted the younger James found in the 1830 Marion County AL Census Record. At this time I do not believe he was a son of James, father of Thomas and Noe. Avi
The info on his son , Noe or Noah was obtained from the 1830 census of Marion County Al also. Clara Rolen supplied some information on Noe or Noah and his family.
Donald Sanderson has info that Thomas Evans father was Billy Evans an English sailor who came to America, deserted and married a Cherokee Indian. He is supposed to get me more information from the persons who gave him this info. I am trying to verify this info but have been unable to as of August 8, 1999.
Children of JAMES EVANS and CHEROKEE INDIAN are:
Generation No. 2
2. THOMAS2 EVANS (JAMES1) was born 1791 in NC, and died May 03, 1856 in Marion County AL ( now Lamar County). He married (1) MARY WEBB 1810 in ?. She was born Unknown in ?, and died Unknown in ?. He married (2) LUCINDA WEBB 1835 in ?, daughter of HIRAM WEBB and MARY BLAYLOCK. She was born 1816 in NC, and died Unknown in ?.
Notes for THOMAS EVANS: Birthdate was computed from info on tombstone. Died 3 May 1856 "Age about 65 years" At this time the children listed from info obtained from census records, others I have listed that were not in the census are documented as to who gave me this info, as I have not found a permanent record that lists all the children. Spell Evins on tomb.
Donald Sanderson and Denise Gregory have siblings of Thomas that I do not have, also they have children of Thomas that I do not have. I have included this information but have not verified all of it.
Notes for MARY WEBB: Source Denise Gregory. Seems to link because my Uncle Carl told me that Richard Green's mother died either in childbirth or when he was a small infant and he was wet nursed by a slave.
Notes for LUCINDA WEBB: Second wife of Thomas Evans.

Information on Noe Avie and wife Lucinda Loggins provided by Clara M. Rolen. Location of burial unknown at this time could be in an unmarked grave in the Evans Cemetery. In the 1850 census of Marion County AL, a Noah is listed living with Noah and Lucinda age 11, I wonder if this could be the son of Thomas and Lucinda Webb whom I believe are dead and this time. BC Notes for LUCINDA LOGGINS: Lucinda ? Evans was living with the Samuel R. Carden family when the 1870 Census of Lamar County was taken. She was 64 years old.

6. BETTIE2 EVANS (JAMES1) was born Unknown, and died Unknown. She married SAM ROBINSON Unknown. He was born Unknown, and died Unknown. Notes for BETTIE EVANS: Info taken from FTW submitted by Donald Sanderson that she is a sister to Thomas Evans my gggrandfather. Name could be Elizabeth and aka Bettie. I don't know anything about Elizabeth other than her father was James Evans (England born) and that she died in Louisianna in 1865. I also know that she married Samual Robinson in Alabama. She moved to Mississippi with her husband and children, and after Samual died on to Louisianna where she died. Just a hunch, but given the date of her death she could have been a casualty of the war. I've been looking for a breakthrough for her and my ggggggrandfather Samual Robinson for two years with no luck. Dennis Robinson Notes for SAM ROBINSON: Could be Robertson as in the 1830 Marion County AL Census Samuel Robertson family lived near the Evans family.
Child of BETTIE EVANS and SAM ROBINSON is:

Notes for RICHARD GREEN EVANS: My uncles, Clay King and Carl King told me that Richard Green Evans Mother died when he was a baby and he was wet nursed by a slave. He is missing a finger. The story my uncles told me was that he was injured in the civil war. On the way home from a battle this finger was injured and was hurting so one of his brothers shot it off. The other story told to me by Mavis Camp was that his finger was cut off working at a syrup mill. Richard Green served in the Confederate Army, Company H, 42nd Alabama Infantry Regiment Army of Tennessee. He was listed on a report of killed, wounded and missing in the battle of Corinth, MS October 3 to 5 1862. He was captured July 4, 1863, Vicksburg, MS. Record reveal that he may have been a Justice of Peace. He was missing a middle finger. My uncle Carl had told me that on the way home from the war ( CSA ) that he had been wounded, the finger was hurting so his brother shot it off to stop the hurt. Mavis Phillips has in her records that he cut if off working in a sorghum mill. Death date taken from tombstone. Freeman Evans lived with R G Evans family according to 1860 Census Marion County AL as farm laborer age 26. Also listed as living with this was Frances Evans age 16, this was a brother to RG. She was related to the Stones and Guthries who pioneered Lamar County in its earliest history. Early in life she joined the Methodist Church having been baptized in infancy and until her physical strenght declined, she remained active in church affairs. Her constant devotion to her church as well as to her friends was a beautiful expression of her deeply religious nature. Although for several years before her death in 1939, she was not able to take an active part in the work that she so loved, she never lost interest in the spiritual and the material welfare of others. She was a honorary member of the Woman's Missionary Society and of the United Daughters of Confederacy. She was affectionately known as "Aunt Betty", she had experienced the hardships of the pioneer life and withstood toils and disappointments of the Reconstruction years. She remained optomistic and had adjusted herself beautifully to the changing time. Elizabeth Dorsey Evans life and her examples of courage, honesty and intergity will ever be an inspiration to all who survive. The above was taken from newspaper article written at her death.
