MS B,

I am James Earl Irvin. I was born in Lamar County AL, at the Marion Co. line on the west side of Dry Creek across the Sipsey from Detroit Nov 13th, 1934. My 1st year of school was at the Sipsey Fork School.  At the time, we lived on "Uncle " Leush Pickle's place across the Lost creek and down the road a way. I was thrilled to find you on my new playpirty.  My daughter Tina Ray gave it to me and got me hooked to the net to keep me busy, ha.

Mr Rigdon Irvin was the father of Robert, the father of Joseph the father of George Washington, the father of Joseph Escar, my father. I have a son named Jonathan Eric and a grandson named Justin Edward . I mentioned my daughter Tina who married a Cristifer Ray. I have two grandsons, one stepgrandson and three granddaughters! I married August
6th,1956 Ella Dean Sandlin, Her mother Exie's father and mother were Roy Franks and Ozie Ella Gann. HER FATHER J.T. SANDLIN'S FATHER AND MOTHER ARE MR UEL CURTIS AND LILIAN AUDIE BISHOP.

MR.  RIGDON  IRVIN'S WIFE WAS  MARY ANNA LOWERY, I THINK.  MR ROBERT IRVIN'S WIFE IS UNKNOWN TO ME.  MR JOSEPH'S WIFE WAS SUSAN RAY.  WHEN THEY MARRIED, HER FATHER GAVE THEM A TEEN AGED BLACK BOY , MR JOSEPH DID NOT WANT HIM AROUND AND TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO RUN HIM OFF AND BACK TO THE RAY'S. EVEN SO FAR AS HITTING HIM ON THE HEAD WITH AN AX HANDLE HE WAS WORKING ON.

MY COUSIN  L.C. (BUD) IRVIN WHO MARRIED EVA   LEE BLAYLOCK, TOOK MY SON AND ME TO THE IRVIN CEMETERY "JUST ACROSS THE LINE" A FEW YEARS AGO WHERE MR. RIGDON IRVIN AND MARY ANNA LOWERY ARE BURIED. SOME ONE HAD STOLEN HIS TOMB, BUT HER'S IS STILL THERE.  TO SEE IF THEY KNEW ANY THING ABOUT IT, WE WENT NEARBY TO TALK TO THE IRVIN SISTERS. ONE OF THE THREE OLD MAIDS WAS MY FIRST GRADE TEACHER AT SIPSEY FORK SCHOOL.  AT BUD'S INTRODUCTION, SHE SAID TO MY SON :"OH, I REMEMBER YOU! YOU'RE THE ONE SO SMART IN YOUR BOOKS". HER MIND WASN'T SO GOOD, BUT HER MEMORY SURE WAS!  SHE EVEN REMEMBERED ME ASLEEP AT MY DESK WITH A BOOK OPENED UPSIDE DOWN TO A 2 PAGE PICTURE OF A BATTLESHIP. AN INCIDENT MY MOTHER HAS VERIFIED.

WE MOVED AWAY FROM LOST CREEK AFTER THE WAR STARTED. MY FATHER WORKED IN THE POWDER PLANT IN CHILDERSBURG, AL . 60 YEARS HAS GONE BY, BUT I REMEMBER AS IF IT WAS YESTERDAY, LAMAR HAS THE MOST GOOD AND FRIENDLY PEOPLE AND I AM PROUD OF OUR CONNECTIONS THERE. DAD IS BURIED AT WESLEY'S CHAPEL, AND SO WILL BE MY 86 YEAR OLD MOTHER, IDELLA CANNON IRVIN.  SHE WAS EXPECTING ME WHEN THEY MOVED FROM THE JAGGER'S PLACE ON LOST CREEK ROAD TO MY BIRTHPLACE ACROSS THE SIPSEY UP DRY CREEK. THEY WERE CAUGHT IN A STORM IN MR. SCOTT'S BARN . MRS. SCOTT TOOK MOM INTO THE HOUSE TO CARE FOR HER WHILE DAD AND A MR. TURMAN STAYED WITH THE TWO WAGONS AND TEAM IN THE HALL OF MR SCOTT'S BARN. AFTER THE STORM THEY CONTINUED ON. I WAS BORN AS SOON AS THEY FINISHED MOVING.

MR. RIGDON IRVIN AND MARY LOWERY MOVED FROM S.C. TO NORTH ALA WHEN ROBERT WAS ABOUT 14. HE IS SAID TO HAVE BEEN 16 WHEN THEY MOVED ON TO MONROE CO. MISS THERE WERE THREE BROTHERS , TWO MOVED ON WEST AND MR. RIGDON DECIDED TO SETTLE HIS FAMILY NEAR THE SIPSEY BECAUSE OF THE ABUNDANCE  OF WATER.  ONE BROTHER JOHN IS THOUGHT TO HAVE GONE TO TEXAS. THERE WAS ALWAYS TALK OF JOINING KIN IN TEXAS, OK OR ARK WHEN TIMES WERE BAD.

MY GRANDFATHER,  GEORGE AND GRANDMOTHER ELIZBETH COGGINS OF PONTOTOC CO. MOVED TO TEXAS FOR ONE SEASON WHEN UNCLE WAS A BABY. GRANDPA CUT FIREWOOD FOR THEIR PASSAGE ACROSS THE "M I CROOKED LETTER, CROOKED LETTER, I CROOKED LETTER , CROOKED LETTER, I PP I, AS GRANDMA WOULD SPELL
MISSISSIPPI.

ONE OF MR. RIGDON' BROTHERS MARRIED ONE OF THE LOWERY GIRLS,  MY GRANDMOTHER SAID THE IRVINS HAD TORRIE LEANINGS. AT ANY RATE GREAT GRANDAD JOSEPH IRVIN LAY OUT DURING THE CIVIL WAR.  HE AND A FRIEND HID AT AN OLD CHIMNEY WHERE FOOD COULD BE COOKED AND WARMTH COULD BE HAD. THEY HUNG WOOL BLANKETS TO HIDE THE FIRE. WHEN THE COAST WAS CLEAR,  THEY WOULD SLIP OUT AND WORKED THE FARM.   JOSEPH ESCAPED FROM THE SECOND FLOOR OF THE OLD ATHENS COURT HOUSE &   JAIL, WHEN "PRESSED" THE 1ST TIMED . THE 2ND TIME HE WAS CAUGHT AT HOME WHILE WORKING THE FARM . HIS WIFE SUSAN SAID IT WOULD BE A SHAME NOT TO EAT THE HOT MEAL SHE HAD JUST COOKED BEFORE LEAVING!  JOSEPH ACTED SICK AND WENT TO THE PORCH TO " THROW UP" .HE WAS NEVER CAUGHT AGAIN. WHAT ELSE-----

MR. RIGDON IRVIN DUG HIS WELL SQUARE. IT'S STILL THERE, WELL BOX WINDLIS AND BUCKET. BUT AN ELECTRIC PUMP HAS BEEN ADDED.------GRANDMA LIZZIE RODE A MULE FROM PONTOTOC TO LAMAR TO VISIT A MARRIED SISTER, MET GRANDPA AND MARRIED WITHIN TWO WEEKS .  I DON'T KNOW HOW THE MULE GOT HOME!  MAYBE IT WAS USED AS A DOWERY. I LOVED THOSE ANNUAL WEEK- LONG VISITS WITH MY GRANDPARENTS, BOTH SIDES! NO TELEVISION IN THOSE DAYS, JUST SITTING OUT ON THE PORCH AFTER SUPPER LISTENING TO THE OLD FOLKS TALKING, SATISFING OUR INQUIRING MINDS.   THOSE DAYS ARE GONE FOREVER AND WILL OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN EVER KNOW OR EVEN CARE . THAT IS WHY I AM SO THANKFUL FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU WHO ARE SO CARING AND GIVING OF SELF SO THEY CAN KNOW!

I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO THE PICKLES, IRVINS AND RAYS ON THE INTERNET. MY FINGER IS PLUM WORE OUT.

THANKS AGAIN,

JAMES AND DEAN IRVIN, TAMPA, FL
