Military Road in Lamar County, Alabama

In 1816 congress authorized that a road was to be repaired and kept in good condition from Columbus, Tennessee to Madisonville, Louisiana. the Old Military Road in Lamar County was a part of this road. From Pikeville in Marion County, this road crosses the north east corner of Lamar County, crossing Beaver Creek at Crews. From there it passes the George Bankhead Inn. From there it goes to the Mulberry Community passing the Moore-Hill House, the old Mulberry Baptist Church, and the Colonel Jack Hollis House. The road crosses the old Vernon-Sulligent Pike and continues on passing the old Green Woods House. From there, the road continues south west to the Bedford Community passing the old Young House near McGill’s Gin. From there it continues to the Lowndes County, Mississippi line.
