Education

The Canons of the Episcopal Church state that, "It shall be the duty of the Clergy in charge of a cure of souls to ensure that children, youth and adults receive instruction in the Holy Scriptures, in the subjects contained in An Outline of the Faith, commonly called the Catechism, and in the doctrine, discipline and worship of this Church, and in the exercise of their ministry as baptized persons." At St. Michael's, Christian education is truly the ministry of all the priesthood of believers.

Children's Church.

Children's Church is a worship and instruction opportunity for the children of the parish. They learn, play, and celebrate God's grace during the Liturgy of the Word and come to the nave for Holy Communion. Children from infants to 6th grade are welcome, but not required, to come to Children's Church!

Sunday School Classes.

Sunday School classes are offered for Primary, Intermediate, Youth, and Adults during the regular academic year. Also, Intergenerational classes are held throughout the church year and include plays in Johnston Hall staged by the Children of St. Michael's. Sunday School is from 11:20 until noon, and is announced with the ringing of a bell.

Inquirers Class.

Inquirers or Confirmation Class is typically held the 4-5 weeks prior to the Bishop's annual visitation in February. Inquirers classes are open to all visitors and parishioners and provide instruction and discussion in the areas of Scripture, Theology, Tradition, and Liturgics in preparation for Confirmation, Reception, or Renewal of Vows. Episcopal Youth Community.

The Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) is open to all young people in grades 7-12. EYC gathers on Sunday nights during the academic year and has special events such as an All Hallows Eve "lock-in," a road trip to Episcopal Day, and bonfires at the Vicarage (the vicar's home).

Pastoral Care

Pastoral care at St. Michael's includes efforts to welcome newcomers, to visit the sick and shut-ins, and to provide care, counsel, and referral services to those in need. In as much as possible, pastoral care is to be the ministry of all communicants of the parish.

Shepherd Groups.

Ministry at St. Michael's also includes our Shepherd Groups, which are utilized to inform members of the parish of special activities, events, or circumstances that are not published in the weekly bulletin or monthly newsletter. The chairperson is responsible for calling the members of the Shepherd Group.
