Stewardship

In the Episcopal Church, stewardship is more than giving money; it includes a reverence for the creation and right use of God's gifts; the generous and consistent offering of time, talent, and treasure for the mission and ministry of the Church at home and abroad; the biblical standard of the tithe for financial stewardship; and the responsibility of all persons to make a will.

St. Michael's is a parish committed to these principles of stewardship. In our Mission Statement, we say that "we actively demonstrate good stewardship of God's creation; and we reach out to share our selves and our resources in the Name of Jesus Christ." This commitment includes parish and personal support for the Fayette County Recycling Center, a volunteer recycling program begun in 1994 with participation and leadership provided by members of the parish.

At its 1998 Leadership Retreat, St. Michael's Vestry adopted a resolution stating that the members of the Stewardship Commission were eager for the Vestry and the parish to remember that stewardship is concerned with time, talent, and treasure. At that retreat, the Vestry officially recognized the 1997 restoration of the Cate-Ashley pipe organ as an example of our stewardship of time, talent, and treasure.
